Akal Degree College for Women, Sangrur was establishedin 1970 by a group of public spirited and enlightened philanthropists whosedominant impulse was to create awareness among the ladies of Malwa Region ofPunjab who were then considered as the most educationally backward lot. Thecollege was intended to feed the rural population in particular, although itwas located in the city of Sangrur. Affiliated to PunjabiUniversity,Patiala(Punjab) the college is situated in the district town ofSangrur which formerly was the capital of erstwhile Jind state. The collegeowes its existence to the generosity and vision of S.Gurbaksh Singh Sibia &S.Surjit Singh Gandhi. S. Gurbaksh Singh Sibia had a dream to start a girlscollege in this backward area of Sangrur. His dream came true by the untiringand self-less efforts of principal Surjit Singh Gandhi who was a greatvisionary and dedicated soul to the cause of female education From one AkalDegree College For Women, Sangrur he created a group of Akal Colleges. Theopening ceremony of the college was performed by Late Lt. General HarbakshSingh Ji. The foundation stone of the new college building was laid in 1988.For inspiration the college looks towards His Holiness Sant AttarsinghJiMaharaj who was the first to launch movement for the spread of femaleeducation in the malwa region. S.TegvirSibia S/o S.Gurbaksh Singh Sibia was thepresident of this college and group of Akal Colleges, Under his leadership thiscollege had become a leading institution and is progressing by leaps andbounds. The college is functioning in peaceful atmosphere with all modernfacilities. It has always shown good results. Students of this college observe examplarydiscipline and conduct. Ms. Sivraj Kaur the founder Principal had served thiscollege as Principal for 20 years. The college made quite a rapid progressunder her able guidance she proved to be an asset to the institution. Dr.Harjit Kaur served as Principal of this college from 01-07-1991 to 30-09-2010and now she is handling the post of Director, General Administration. PrincipalSivraj Kaur is the overall incharge of all the colleges. At present Dr.Sukhmeen Sidhu is working as the Principal of this college since 18-11-2010.

After the untimely of sad demise of S. TegvirSingh Ji Sibia, S. Karamvir Singh Sibia his brother has been unanimouslyselected as Chairman of  Akal Group ofcolleges. We have every hope that under his Stewardship Akal Group Of collegeswould achieve new heights of progress and serve the cause of female educationof this area of Malwa Region.

Admissions to BA/BCA/BCOM/PGDCA/M.Sc.(IT) is going on with Rs.500/- late fee w.e.f 01-08-2018.


This is to inform new entrants and existing students of the college that the classes of BCA, PGDCA, M.Sc.(IT) for the new session will commence from 30-07-2018.


College has decided to place the BUST of our worthy founder S. Gurbaksh Singh Sibia ji in the college campus. The ceremony will take place on 07-AUGUST-2018 at 12:00(noon).


This is to inform new entrants and existing students of the college that the classes of all the courses for the new session will commence from 24-07-2018.
